About James

"Dr. James McKendry is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in Professor Stuart Phillip's protein metabolism research group in the Department of Kinesiology, and a McCall-MacBain Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University. The focus of Dr. James McKendry's research is to explore the adaptive response of human skeletal muscle to use (i.e., resistance and aerobic exercise), disuse (i.e., immobilization/bed rest), and sarcopenia of aging; along with the development of novel nutritional interventions to augment muscle hypertrophy and mitigate losses in response to resistance exercise and aging, respectively. With a particular interest in the study of unique populations - such as mater athletes - Dr. James McKendry's research seeks to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern skeletal muscle adaptation, through the use of stable isotopic tracers. Dr. James McKendry has been a recipient of the prestigious European College of Sports Science Young Investigator Award for his Ph.D. work in master athletes."
